Bright flashes of light deliver specific wavelengths that target red and brown pigments within the skin.
The light and heat cause these pigments to break down into smaller particles. These smaller particles slowly fade and eventually disappear throughout the body’s natural healing process.
Any remaining melanin particles rise to the surface of the skin and flake away, leaving a smooth and clear surface.
Redness: IPL heats the surface of the skin and blood vessels below, destroying the capillaries and vessels that often contribute to the appearance of redness.
Tone & texture: Light is converted into heat energy, reigniting collagen and elastin production, which leads to smoother and more even-toned skin over time.
Sun damage/Hyperpigmentation:: Hyperpigmentation: Signs of sun damage—like hyperpigmentation are reduced throughout the treatment as the face is exposed to intense pulses of light.
Lumecca is best for those with fairer skin (Fitzpatrick Scale Types I-III) since it specifically targets melanin in the skin. We recommend it for those looking to target hyperpigmentation, redness, and melasma.
The Lumecca IPL Photofacial feels similar to laser hair removal, which is often described a bit like a rubber band snapping against the skin. It’s very tolerable and following the treatment, your skin will feel slightly warm after your treatment.
You’ll begin to see an improvement in your skin within 1-2 weeks following your treatment. The results only continue to improve over time and you’ll likely see the best results around 1 month after your last treatment.
Avoid strenuous exercise or any other activities that make you sweat for a few days following your treatment.
Avoid scheduling this treatment 1-2 weeks before a big event since you can experience redness, darkening of pigmented spots, and flaking following your treatment. These are all signs that the treatment is working. Avoid picking at any spots or flakes and allow them to resolve on their own; they should disappear within 1-2 weeks.
Begin using a cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF as recommended by your provider during your consultation.”
Stop retinol use and exfoliating active ingredients (ingredients in your skincare that cause physical or chemical exfoliation, like scrubs) at least 1 week before your treatment. Wait to book your appointment for 4 weeks after being sunburned. If you have a fresh tan—whether from the sun or an artificial tan—wait 2 weeks before receiving this treatment.
